A GoAir Airbus A320neo had to abort takeoff at Ahmedabad airport, India, after its right engine caught fire. The malfunction is suspected to be due to a foreign object, possibly a bird strike.
The aircraft, registered VT-WGY, was about to carry out flight G8802 from Ahmedabad International Airport (AMD) to Bengaluru International Airport (BLR). During its take-off roll, a fire was detected in engine #2.
“The right engine of GoAir flight G8 802 is suspected to have suffered from a foreign object damage (FOD) while on take-off roll,” a spokesperson for GoAir said in a statement, adding “the suspected FOD resulted in a small fire which has been doused.”
The aircraft was towed away from the runway, after which all passengers and crew were evacuated normally. The exact number of passengers is unknown. Another plane was used to carry the passengers to their final destination.
