It was early 80's when Jean Pierre head of Airbus has dreamt of a new super jumbo built in Europe and there was no need to air operators to fly over the Atlantic to get the Queen of the sky Boeing 747 which used to monopolize the market for over 30 years. Somehow, Boeing, the American planemaker had been reaped the benefits of building the world's largest aircraft and having no competitor has created an empire for jumbo jets.
''John Pearson didn't like the fact that if you want to buy a jumbo jet there is only one place in the world that you can go and buy for it which was Seattle and Boeing'' said Max Kingsley-Jones editor, Airline Business on SBS one channel.
There was no law in the aviation market that the largest aircraft should always be the Boeing 747 said the head of Marketing A380
Jean Pierrs' dream has taken a step forward when his head of development plan showed him a plan for developing for an audacious new aircraft. He shows him a new super jumbo jet even bigger than the B747 that would be a game-changer. By carrying 25% more passengers than the Boeing 747 the airlines will be coming to Airbus instead of Boeing.
But building the world's superjumbo is no small undertaking, Any failure could signify the end of Airbus. ''We are talking billions in terms of developments so we could say you are betting the future of your company'' added the Head of A380 Charles Champion.
PIERRE's PUT PLANS INTO PRACTISE
Despite the risk, Pearson has seen a bright future on that new aircraft that could challenge and change the market and the world forever.
He decided it is worth the risk and ordered his team to make it happened and builds the world's largest superjumbo.
The A380 aircraft's components had been building in several countries of Europe such as the wings and engines in UK the fuselage in Germany and northern France and the tail in Spain. By that time the airbus has limited factories so needed creating new factories in four countries of Europe.
In January 2005 in France Toulouse, the superjumbo is revealed to the world in a glittering ceremony.
European premiers who have invested billions of dollars of public money in the project gathered for the event in front of word's media.
''This is the most exciting new aircraft in the world it is European cooperation working at it's best said in a speech the Uk's Prime Minister Tony Blur''
Your heart tells you oh my God this the best inventor of the world because I am the one who was leading the programme'' said the head of A380 Charles Champion.
and continues: ''It is a very emotional moment when you suddenly realised what you have done''.
But it was only one thing yet to come for the state of the Art to confirm it's existence the test flight.
Thus three months in April 2005 later the A380 took off from Toulouse airborne and landed successfully back to Toulouse airport. Around 40.000 people were gathered in Toulouse airport to view A380's maiden flight. The biggest challenge of the queen of the Sky was born and it was ready to take the skies. Singapore Airlines and Emirates were the first customers who have put orders for the newest Superjumbo A380.
In October 2007 hundreds of passengers boarded the very first commercial flight on a Singapore flight. The next years more than 10 airlines have ordered the state of the art A380 superjumbo jet.
