The
Greek minister of tourism Elena Kountoura denies Ryanair's accusations that has ignored the request of the Irish
air-carrier to reduce taxes imposed to airlines from the Greek
airports.
The
Minister said that has indeed requested from formers governments to
reduce levy and for Kos airport to cut at all, however she explained
to the representative of Ryanair that this particular request will
have to be raised with competent ministries which have the
authorities to modify taxes.
Earlier
the Chief Commercial Officer David O'Brien of the low cost airline interviewed to a Greek newspaper -To Vima- and levelled terrible
accusations against Greek Cultural Minister by saying that she
ignored all the complaints letters that Ryanair sent about the taxes
and the strikes of the ATC. Moreover he announced that his company
will stop flying two months before the end of the summer season and
as it was the business planning of the low cost airline.
The
C.C.O. of Ryanair said that had proposed since 2014 that the government
reduces fees and taxes in the low season and exempts small airports
from the airport modernization and development levy which amount to
12 Euro per passengers, for five years. Another proposal concerns
reducing the same tax by 50% for Athens International Airport and in
return the Irish airline pledged it would bring an additional 2
million tourist to Athens and 3.5 million in regional airports.
According to O'Brien the Greek Minister never answer positive or
negative.
