The
solar impulse plane has managed to land in Silicon Valley after three
days flights over Pacific ocean according to BBC.com. The plane took
off from Hawaii airport.
Both pilots made a flight in March 2015 in Abu Dubai after took off from Oman airport. |
“The
pacific is done” Piccard declared just before landing.
You
know there was a moment in the night, I was watching the reflection
of the moon on the ocean and I was thinking, I'm completely alone in
this tiny cockpit and feel completely confident” said the pilot
afterwards.
The
newcomer plane gets all its energy from the sun with the help of
17.000 photovoltaic cells on its top surfaces. These power the
craft's propellers during the day but charges batteries that the
vehicle's motors can then call on during the night.
The
next intention of solar impulse cockpit is to reach New York by the
start of June to begin preparations for an Atlantic crossing.
Mr
Piccard and Mr Borschberg the two pilots of the solar impulse told
BBC that had been working on the Solar project for more than a
decade.
