First flight attendants of the world

The first flight attendant globally was Heindrich Kubis. He was German and he had been hired as a cabin boy to assist the pilot in command with duties on board in 1912.

Kubis did served drinks on board flying from Berlin to Friedrichshafen. He trained as a waiter in Paris  and he worked as waiter in Luxury hotel where his professional destine changed completely when he began attending to passengers on the LZ 10 Schwaben aircraft built by the Zeppelin.

Later on May 3 1937 on a trip to New Jersey the Hindenburgen in an attempt to land at the air station came into flames. Kubis managed to save his life and passengers lives as well by  evacuating them  from the window. During the disaster 36 people died.

Eighteen years later Ellen Church a registered nurse would become the first flight attendant of the world at the age of 25 years old in 1930.

She was hired by  Boeing Air Transport -now United Airlines and despite the fact that she failed to get hired as pilot she stayed in aviation and created history by envisioned a crew full of nurses which soon came into fruition.  She found herself  as the head of the sky-girls as she recruited  seven more nurses and together they form the perfect eight crew.  Their first flight was on May 1935 from San Francisco to Chicago on Boeing . The flight time was 20 hours and they had done 13 stops and 14 passengers on board.

Ellen during the Second World War worked as  a Captain and flight nurse and earned an air Medal.

Thanks to their knowledge  in medicine and first aid they had become ideal for that new profession by that time especially for transatlantic routes. Sky girls  had been able to provide and to look after the passengers well and soon public's fear of flying had become a memory.

She was a pilot and she was keen to hired as pilot but she wasn't able to full-fill that dream as those job positions had remained closed for women by then. She only flew for 2 years and had to stepped down and ended her career as an air-hostess after a car accident  automobile.  She moved to Indiana. She  married  and continued her career path as a nurse where later became director of nursing and later administrator at the Union hotel.

Airlines:Recruitment requirements

Just after the second II war and flying blossomed more and more airlines had been established and nurses had been on the top of airlines for hiring. The new profession of Air- hostess has become into fruition. Airlines follow the suits of united and employed nurses.

The so -called stewardesses or air hostesses were single ladies registered nurses mid 20 and 30 years old. They did not allow  to weight up to 52 kg and stand 5 feet 4 inched tall ( 163 cm). Their duties comprises of  attending the passengers help with hauling the luggage fuelling and assisting the pilots to push the aircraft into hangars. Their salary was good: $125 a month. The sky girls got fired when they married or reached the aged of 35 years old.

Some of these requirements had remained as a legacy for decades. Gulf airlines and Asian airlines such as Emirates Qatar Saudi Arabia Air Asia and Singapore Airlines are still hiring only ladies in their early 20s and tend to prefer female.

There many anecdotes stories and films regarding the flight attendants since 1933 and most of the plots referred to untold love stories between pilots and air-hostess such as "Air Hostess and Vicki Barr: Flight Stewardress.
