Sriwijaya Air: Flight 182 crashes into the Indian ocean

 Boeing 737-500 crashed shortly after take off from Jakarta airport. They were 62 souls on board including four babies and 12 crew. Witnesses seen the crash.   


Flight 182 departed from Jakarta airport  and four minutes after take off it went missing from Indonesian's Air traffic controls radars on 9 January 2021 at 2:30pm local time.  The 26 years old aircraft  for an unknown reason lost its flyability and fell off from the 25000 feet whilst it was climbing. Its final destination was the Pontianak airport.

Fishermen  have heard and seen at least one explosion." The plane fell like lighting into the sea and exploded into the water " Fisherman Solihin told BBC 

Residents of the area have found items and they believed that those items were from the airplane BBC reporting.

Search and Rescue teams along with the navy have been assigned to look for the aircraft at the point of crashing said the Transport Minister of Indonesia BBC reporting. 

The debris will be passed to the National Transportation Safety to be investigated told CNN  Rear Admiral Abdul Rasyid .

It is thought that were 50 passengers on board and 12 flight crew. Sriwijaya Air is a local budget airline flying in Indonesia and other south East Asian destination are still collecting information in regards to this matter according to BBC  

In terms of operational safety the airline classes as category one and it means that this is the highest class that an airline could achieve according to the Indonesian civil aviation authority. Their fleet consists of 11 Boeing older generation than the Boeing 737 MAX. 

The aircraft has been manufactured in 1994 and originally belonged to Continental Airlines fleet.

In 2018 a Boeing 737 MAX crashed into the ocean minutes after take off killing 189 passengers.

In 2014 AirAsia flight8501 plunged into the Java sea and taking the lives of 162 souls on board while flying from Surabaya to Singapore.

In 2007 the European aviation safety agency issued a notification and banned all flight from Indonesian airlines putting them in black list for years.

 However their standards have been improved and in 2018  EASA has cleared them from their blacklist.
